Zambia is a developing nation which numerous positive and negative facets. One of the negative facets is the large-scale corruption across majority of industries and even the government. As a result, majority of the corrupt and greedy individuals and associations roam freely and engage in unethical or corrupt business practices without any fear. This also means danger for any individual or businessman trying to follow a path of honesty and ethical business. As a result, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has been facing false charges, accusations and reputation-damaging programs almost his entire business career.

While majority of the times he and his teams have been able to identify the true culprits and reasons behind these false accusations, many of the cases are either still pending or were given against him. As a result, the testimony from the Supreme Court of Zambia is a welcome move for Dr. Mahtani and all those who are tirelessly working with honesty and ethical business practices. As per the testimony of the SC judge, Justice Mumba Malila, “It appears in all probability to have political undertones and at best intended to aid the civil action. In terms of the proviso to Article 56 (7) of the Constitution, I suggest (direct) that this prosecution be discontinued on public policy consideration.

This means the prosecution of Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani in the year 2012 was politically motivated and the decision was influenced by outside parties rather than evidences which suggested otherwise. The testimony from the SC judge clearly indicated that the due to the greed of particular individuals and groups, businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani have suffered greatly over the years and will continue to suffer if changes in the governance and law and order are not established. As such, the SC judge has come forward and raised his concerns along with his testimony to defend few of the remaining honest and ethical businessmen in Zambia.
