On the auspicious eve of Africa Day, President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema announced that he is planning to completely abolish the death penalty law in Africa. Africa Day, which is celebrated on 25th May every year, is one of the most notable days in the African continent. On this date, African Unity Organization commemorated more than seven decades ago. It was special for President Hakainde to select this day to make a critical announcement. Soon after the announcement, positive support started to appear for the President and his decision. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the founder and current Chairman of Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ), a noted Christian Outreach Program which focuses on bringing the teachings and learnings of Jesus Christ to the prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families in Zambia. The program also focuses on ensuring transparent criminal justice for the prisoners in Zambia as well as ensuring that they are not devoid of fundamental human rights & basic human dignity. As such, it can be said that the goals and objectives of the Prison Fellowship Zambia (PFZ) match with the latest announcement made by the Zambian President. As such, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani extended his full support to the President’s decision by providing legal and regulatory support via his company Prison Fellowship Zambia. A recent interview with Dr. Rajan Mahtani was published in the ‘Mast Newspaper’ in which Dr. Rajan Mahtani praised the decision from the Zambian President. At the same time, Dr. Rajan Mahtani stated that making a statement and ensuring that statement becomes a reality are two different things, and as such, Prison Fellowship will provide the President with full support in this matter.
