Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani is a noted businessman in Zambia and the owner of numerous successful businesses. In the year 2019, after more than a decade of legal fights, Dr. Rajan Mahtani finally received justice in the form of verdict from the Court of Appeal. This verdict was given for the Portland Cement Zambia case, which went through two major courts before its successful closure. First it was Lusaka High Court, which took the chunk of the case proceedings and yet failed to provide appropriate judgement for the case. Then it was higher Court of Appeal where the case was re-appealed by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. It should be noted that during the time the factory was under legal battle, its production and efficiency decreased significantly as a result of lack of appropriate leadership and maintenance. As a result, this move to provide quick verdict by the Court of Appeal judge was hailed by many. Justice Mwinde then evaluated all the evidences and testimonials submitted by both parties and provided the final decision on the case on 31st January 2019, around nine months after the case was registered by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. This was indeed a quick decision from the Court of Appeal.

Some of the major evidences were payment of one billion kwachas from Dr. Rajan Mahtani owned Finsbury Investments to Zambezi Portland Cement covering the entire share capital value. Another evidence was original shareholder’s agreement confirming ownership of 58 percent ZPC shares by Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Based on these evidences, it was established that Dr. Rajan Mahtani was the actual owner of the factory. While Dr. Rajan Mahtani is presently again the pleased proprietor of the Portland Cement Zambia industrial facility, he has an immense tough errand ahead which includes improving the effectiveness, creation and generally speaking execution of the Portland Cement production line which decreased to its greatest every one of these years.
