Dr. Rajan Mahtani is one of the most honest, ethical and transparent business personalities in Zambia. This nature of him is evident from his business practices, business ventures as well as social contributions. He is the owner of Mahtani Group of Companies, Finsbury Investment, Finance Bank Zambia and many more companies within Zambia as well as outside the nation such as United Kingdom. His social contributions and charitable activities are known to almost every corporate individual in Zambia. However, fate seems to be playing games with him. Even after submitting numerous factual and strong evidences, Dr. Mahtani is yet to receive justice from the court regarding the Portland Cement Zambia case.
The case was registered almost ten years back and during this long-pending trial, Dr. Mahtani and is lawyers have submitted numerous documents and evidences that sufficiently proved that Dr. Mahtani is the real and legal owner of the factory. Some of this strong evidences included signed shareholder’s agreement, investment reports indicating investment worth more than USD 12 million from Dr. Mahtani and his companies for the growth and development of Portland Cement Zambia, financial exhibits, testimonials from critical members associated with the factory as well as independent audit report conducted by an independent auditor which clearly stated that the factory was established as a joint venture and Dr. Rajan Mahtani is the sole joint venture owner of the factory. Even after these strong evidences, the court took more than ten years to arrive at a final decision.
The pain and harassment due to ten years of wait was not enough, and Dr. Rajan Mahtani is yet to receive true justice. The final judgment announced by the court was against Dr. Mahtani’s claims, which was bizarre and unacceptable from all ends. As such, Dr. Rajan Mahtani took the right step and launched a new appeal to the higher court of Zambia against this misdirected judgement at the Lusaka High Court.
