As per the latest testimony from the Supreme Court Judge of Zambia, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has been a victim of numerous political motivations. This eye opening testimony came in the month of October 2018, when honorable justice Mumba Malila opened up regarding a blotched investigation and the subsequent wrongful prosecution of one of the most honest and transparent businessman in Zambia, Dr. Rajan Mahtani.

In his testimony, judge Malila highlighted that in the year 2012, the judge gave a ‘nolle prosequi’ to the prosecution case related to Dr. Rajan Mahtani. This requested was supported by Mr. Mutembo Nchito who was acting as the DPP (Director of Public Prosecution) during that time. However, the request was unheard of and instead, Mr. Nchito was removed from his office in the year 2016. As per the Supreme Court Judge’s testimony, the case against Dr. Rajan Mahtani was null and void as it was against the interests of the public policy and was to be closed due to its inconsistency. However, these issues and inconsistencies within the case were ignored completely.

The testimony from the Judge highlighted the issue of corruption and widespread smear campaigns for anyone who dares to stand up against the corrupt and the power hungry people. Dr. Rajan Mahtani is among the most respected and ethical business person across Zambia. He has more than three decades of successful business experience with noteworthy companies such as Mahtani Group of Companies, Finsbury Investments and Finance Bank Zambia. Also, Dr. Mahtani has practically devoted his life towards philanthropic causes and charitable activities.

Despite these, he is constantly subjected to false accusations and wrongful defamation campaigns in the hands of few greedy, unethical but powerful people. The testimony is a clear indication that greed and conspiracy from few individuals can have devastating impact on the entire economy. While the testimony is a positive move from the judge, the nation requires more such movements and initiatives from all sections of the society to create any change.
